10 Rules for a Life of Happiness

I've come to realize that the best person to make you happy is yourself. Life isn't going the way you want? Don't blame it on anyone else...look within. #ChooseHappiness and watch your world change before your very eyes...


Rule #1: Be grateful for what you have.

Too often we focus on the things we wish we had instead of the things we actually do. Things in your life aren't going according to planned? So what! Be thankful that you're alive; that's more than a lot of people can say.


Rule #2: Take care of yourself. 

Ever heard the saying, "If you look good, you feel good"? Well it's true! Take care of yourself by getting adequate rest, drinking water, exercising and eating healthy! You don't have to adorn yourself with makeup every time you step outside, but no matter what take pride in your appearance.


Rule #3: Be altruistic.

No matter how bad you may think you have it, someone always has it worse. Lose yourself in the service of others.


Rule #4: Don't worry, be happy. 

There is not much I can say about this because it's pretty self explanatory. Don't worry about today's, yesterday's, or tomorrow's stresses. Just be happy, it'll work out in whatever way it's supposed to.

Rule #5: Don't be too hard on yourself.

No one is perfect! Don't compare your successes or failures to those of others. Given that you have tried your best, don't beat yourself up if things don't go according to plan. Keep working hard, and believe that everything will pan out. 


Rule #6: Combat negative thoughts with positive ones. 

This rule is easier said than done, but with practice it can be achieved. Make it a point to banish negative thoughts from your mind when they rear their ugly head. To do this, for every negative thought replace it with three or more positive thoughts.


Rule #7: Build a bridge & get over it.

How has holding a grudge ever helped you? No one says you should necessarily forget, but at the very least, learn to forgive. Harboring ill feelings does nothing but turn you into an angry and bitter person. How can you truly be happy if you are constantly holding grudges?? The answer is, you can't.


Rule #8: Set goals. 

To be happy you need to figure out what "happy" means for you. Is it a career change, a lifestyle change or is it just a simple mindset change? Set realistic goals and work to achieve them.


Rule #9: Fake it til' you make it.

Nothing happens overnight, so just like anything else sometimes you have to go through the motions first. Before you know it, your happiness will become a reality.


Rule #10. L-i-v-e!

Find a hobby. Be social. Travel. Dance like no one is watching and sing like no one is listening!! Whatever you do, don't spend your life "wishing" you could do something. Balls to the wall....JUST DO IT!
